Cougar Aquatic Team Policy on Cell Phones & Recording Devices

To protect the safety, privacy, and comfort of all Cougar Aquatic Team athletes, families, and coaches — and in full compliance with USA Swimming’s Safe Sport policies and New Jersey state law (N.J.S.A. 2C:14-9) — the use of cell phones, cameras, or any recording devices is strictly prohibited in all locker rooms, bathrooms, and changing areas at any CAT practice or competition venue.

This includes but is not limited to:
• Men’s, Women’s, Boys’, Girls’, and Family locker rooms
• Showers, restrooms, and changing areas at all facilities where CAT operates or competes

🚫 No Phones or Devices for:

  • Calls, texts, or FaceTime
  • Photos or videos
  • Scrolling, browsing, or social media use
  • Recording of any kind

βœ… Best Practice:

Please store your phone securely in your bag while using these areas. This policy applies to all athletes, parents, coaches, volunteers, and guests at any CAT-related activity or facility.

βš–οΈ Legal and Safe Sport Compliance:

Under New Jersey law (N.J.S.A. 2C:14-9), recording devices are prohibited in private spaces where individuals have a reasonable expectation of privacy — such as locker rooms, restrooms, and changing rooms.
In addition, USA Swimming’s Safe Sport Program requires member clubs to strictly enforce privacy protections to help ensure a safe and respectful environment for all participants.

🚨 Consequences for Violations:

  • Athletes or members: May face suspension or removal from the team.
  • Parents, volunteers, or guests: May lose event or facility access privileges.
  • Repeated or serious violations may be referred to USA Swimming’s Safe Sport office for further review.

Thank you for helping us uphold the privacy, dignity, and safety of all members of the Cougar Aquatic Team community.
