Coaches

CAT’s experienced coaches put the needs of the swimmer first. As they guide swimmers through CAT’s age-appropriate progressive program, they challenge and mentor each swimmer to be his or her very best.

Kit Ashenfelter has been coaching at CAT since 2004 where she has helped develop the Senior Team. She has an American Swim Coaches Association Level 5 certification and has been honored several times as an ASCA Coach of Excellence. Before coming to Cougars, Kit served as the Head Coach at the Montclair YMCA for 12 years where she guided the team to the #1 YMCA ranking in the state, placed in the top 10 nationally for several years, in addition to producing several Y National Champions. Highlights of her coaching career include 5 Olympic Trial qualifiers and swimmers who've acheived World rankings, National Age-Group Records, numerous USA National and Sectional finalists, and National Age-Group top 16 rankings. In 2006, Coach Kit was named by USA Swimming as a National Team Coach.

Coach Kit values the opportunity to work with young people and to share “life lessons” including empowering her athletes to take responsibility for the choices they make. Many of her athletes have had successful swimming and academic collegiate careers, including several NCAA All-Americans.

She swam for Bucknell University at the National level and continued competing in Masters Swimming for close to 20 years.
